How the Chamber was formed
On May 30, 1929, the Swedish-Polish Chamber of Commerce held its first General Meeting of Members (annual meeting) with 32 members. The preparation work had taken about a year. The incentive to form the Chamber of Commerce was a Polish desire to expand trade relations with the Nordic countries, primarily with Sweden. The head of the Polish State Export Institute in Warsaw had been invited to speak on the subject of “Trade relations between Sweden and Poland” at a gathering of the Swedish-Polish Association in Stockholm on May 4, 1928. In his talk, he had proposed “the establishment of an institution with the aim of expanding and intensifying trade between the two countries”. After the proposal was discussed between representatives of Swedish authorities and of trade and industry, a committee was appointed with the task of investigating the possibility of establishing a Swedish-Polish Chamber of Commerce. The result of the committee’s work was that about a year later the first General Meeting of Members of the Chamber was held and the Chamber could start its operations.
